One week into my experiment with time blocking seems like a good time to take an initial assessment. So far, things have gone rather well, but that's not saying much because I was performing pretty poorly before.

This week, however, I managed to finish my grad school application (though the deadline may have been a bigger factor in that), apply to a couple of jobs, make nontrivial progress on a new blog post, and handled my usual household chores pretty well. I've also managed to avoid totally falling back into the social media black-hole, which was really eating my time before the Texas trip. So on that front, I'm pretty satisfied.

Time blocking isn't a panacea for akrasia, of course. I still have trouble getting up in the morning or going to bed on time, but having a schedule during the day has made it easier to keep moving. There's a structure, you see, and I can work within that.

I'll keep this going during the week, though who knows whether it will hold up over the weekend with both of my ever-unpredictable parents around the house. A lot of my productivity plans have fallen apart after the first week over the years.
